A passion for Glass
Shaun began teaching himself the art of making glass beads in 1998 at the age of 14, in his parents' garage. He was intrigued with flameworking and inspired to learn the skill and process of pipe-making. Working summers as an ocean lifeguard, Shaun was able to purchase his first kiln and torch to work tubing for larger projects. As a college freshman in San Luis Obispo, California, Shaun apprenticed with a local flameworker for two years in his free time. Here he learned the fundamentals of working tubing and color to create his first pipes. Over the years, he has been keeping his make-shift studio spaces going and enjoying his ongoing connection to glass and flameworking. After moving to southern Oregon in 2011 with his young family, Shaun was able to build his first permanent studio. In 2013, he attended a workshop with Roger Parramore at Pilchuck Glass School in Tacoma, Washington. This experience helped Shaun advance his technical skills and connect with other glass artists. Currently living with family and blowing glass in southern Oregon, Shaun continues to be inspired by nature and his excitement for glass.
